There are several factors you should consider when buying a ladder.

Firstly, you must consider the height that you will need to be working at. If working at over 5 metres off the ground, an extension ladder will be necessary. These can come in two or three sections; the largest giving up to ten metres in reach. For lower heights, a step ladder or combination ladder should suffice. Always remember that the ladder should extend a few rungs above your desired standing height to ensure a safe balanced position.

Secondly, you must consider the weight that will be placed on the ladder, including tools that you will be using. Thirdly, you must consider how you will store the ladder. Step ladders and combinations ladders can be stored easily due to their flexibility. Extension ladders will need a larger amount of room, but you must consider how dry and cool any storage area is in order to maintain the structure of any ladder. If you are using your ladder for long periods of time and unable to store it between usage then make sure it is secured safely in your work area to avoid theft.
